Star Spangled Race Day report by Pete Macias.

July 4, 2001

The Star Spangled Banner event was a success. The event was to mark the 50th Anniversary of the National Hot Rod Association.

200 racers showed up to play in the sun for what turned out to be a great day of racing. The day was billed as a Street Legal type race with a Gamblers race included. 58 racers participated in the Non-Electronic class, while 18 participated in the Electronics class of the Gamblers event. The competition was intense yet fun. Scott Pettit walked away the winner of the Non-Electronic class with winnings of 594.00, John Masterman runnered up to a prize of 297.00. Tom Horsley took the Electronics class with a purse of 189.00, David Chun Jr. took runner up with 94.50. (look for more results below). Finally the King of the Hill run off for the 50th Anniversary Wally provided by NHRA to commemorate the event. The winner and runner up in each class had a run off. The pairings were David Chun Jr vs Scott Pettit and Tom Horsley vs John Masterman. Chun Jr took out Pettit in the first pairing (Chun DI 8.71 ran 8.756 at 142.70 mph vs Pettit DI 11.88 ran 11.907 at 110.838 mph) and Masterman took out Horsley in the second (Masterman DI 12.07 ran 12.06 at 117.293 mph vs Horsley DI 10.32 ran 10.287 at 149.013 mph. The final round with Chun vs Masterman was intense with John Masterman taking home the prized Wally. (Masterman DI 12.05 ran 12.066 at 118.439 mph vs Chun DI 8.71 ran 8.695 at 154.06 mph) John needless to say is on cloud nine and will probably be there for a good long time.
