PIR BRACKET RACING NEWS
Welcome to the unofficial (but sort of official) Portland International Raceway Bracket Racing site! Now in its sixth year, the focus of this site will remain as a source to keep you updated on the Bracket Racing program at PIR. I'll leave the street legal races, import races, etc. up to someone else. Keep in mind this is still a volunteer deal, but I will do my best to keep the results and points standings up to date. As well as submitting the results to National Dragster. One thing I won't even try to promise this year is the picture pages. I will leave that up to you - the racers running for points at PIR to submit.
If you have any information, news, comments or concerns regarding Bracket Racing at Portland International Raceway that you would like to have posted here, just send an e-mail to:

Looks like I've got the software glitch fixed, or at least a way around it. Unfortunately it is probably too late now, but there still may be a chance to pick up a copy of the Friday edition (Nov. 3) of the Portland Tribune. If you haven't already heard, Jeff Zurschmeide's column was all about Team PIR winning the Divisional Championship - and featured a picture of Casey Allum's 55 taken by our own Carol Brown!
And while it may be too late to pick up that issue, it is not too late to become a member of
Friends of PIR. This sounds like a very positive step toward uniting all PIR users in our common goal of making certain a vocal minority does not dictate the future of our race track. I highly encourage you to visit the site and sign up as a member.

Portland Int'l Raceway takes team title at NHRA Summit Series Finals

Since neither Carol Brown nor I were able to make it to the race this year (damn-it), I'm going to have to rely on you guys to send me race pics - as well as any race stories you would like to share. Just send 'em to

Request from John and Johdi Masterman:
Once again, we are trying to coordinate getting all the necessary vehicles to the bracket finals. We have tow vehicle/trailer units procured. We do however, need a driver for a street car. Brian is towing Johdi's racecar 65 Buick, and we need to get the big, bad, 4-door 64 Buick down there. Gas would be paid, we just need a driver to safely deliver the car to the track by early Thursday morning, and bring it home after the event is over. It's perfectly roadworthy, with nice long legs (2.73 gears) for comfortable cruising. All the mechanicals are less than two years old, except for the axle bearings and seals (which will be checked and replaced as necessary before the trip). NO air conditioning! (sorry).
If anyone is interested, email at
car42whereru@hotmail.com, or find one of the Mastermans or Brian at the track. Thanks!

*NEWS FLASH*
In this exclusive, top secret spy photo, current Pro points leader Casey Allum can be seen testing his new Super Pro entry. While this class change might be welcomed by the competition in Pro bracket, it should be noted that until roll cage / driver restraint issues with the new car can be resolved, Casey will continue in Pro bracket.

June 8, 2006
Just a reminder - no bracket racing next Wednesday (June 14) as the
Champ car race will be taking place the following weekend. If you have never been to a Champ car race, I would highly encourage you to do so. For one reason, it is great racing. Another reason is attendance numbers for this years race are critical for the series to return to Portland in 2007. The loss of this race could have several potential negative effects for PIR and all those who use it.

2006 points now listed. Along those lines, I have had a few people ask about points standings from previous seasons. I have now included an archive listing of both points standings and weekly results from 2001 through the 2005 seasons on the
Results page.

Don't forget, bracket racing switches from Sundays and returns to the 1/8th mile this Wednesday (Mar. 29) night.

This just in from Andy Tabor:
" We recovered the truck last night. They also have two people in custody. So maybe we will at least get some answers. Jay Wayne who rides a motorcycle was the one that chased them down and called the police."
Yet another example of this great community of racers helping racers.

I just received word that Andy Tabor's Blazer was stolen Tuesday night. I'll post any further information as I receive. In the meantime, keep your eyes open for:

If you have any information, contact
AndyAgain, I'll post more as I receive. UPDATE:
The plate number now is 631-TUC and the passenger side has a good size dent in it. It has my race number on it in blue and silver vinyl C613. It has a in & out Burger sticker in the very back window. The trailer hitch has a Chevy bow tie insert in it that says T&A Racing on it.

Couple of site updates. The 2006 Bracket Racing schedule is now posted. I've also added a few more (really cool) pics to the Drag Racing section of the PIR History pages.
PIR Racer Update: Mark Kestermont had so much fun racing Junior Floyd's "POGO" black 67 Camaro last year, that he decided to build his own car for this season. Below is a pic of his Nova's first day out of the body and paint shop.

New for 2006
Beginning January 1, 2006, all Jr. Drag Racing League participants, must submit a certified birth certificate on all new participants registrations. Also, all participant renewals must also submitted with a certified birth certificate.

For those in need of a chassis inspection for the 2006 season, there will be an official Div. 6 inspection at Jackson Automotive and Performance in Wilsonville on Saturday February 4th. Contact Steve Jackson (503-682-2165) for details.
Sportsman racer Justin Saxe has taken up a new hobby of video editing. For a sample of his work (which is pretty cool, I might add), click
HERE. If you are interested in having Justin put together a video of your car, you can contact him at justinsaxe@comcast.net
