SPORTS CAR RACING

From its humble beginnings on the old Vanport city streets to the world class race facility of today, PIR has a rich history of regional and national sports car races. Over the years, PIR has hosted events conducted by the SCCA, IMSA, American Le Mans, The Cascade Sports Car Club, Team Continental and others. Additionally, PIR is often rented by local sports car clubs for track days.

This section is still under construction. I will be adding more soon. In the meantime, here are a couple of really cool artifacts I've run across:

One of these dash plaques was given to each participant of the first Rose Cup Race. This particular one however, is quite special. As it belongs to Dick Hahn whose Ferrari Testarossa, driven by Jerry Grant was the first winner at PIR! Many thanks to Cindi Lux (Dick Hahn's daughter) for sharing this with us.

Another cool little piece of PIR history is this race program from the first Rose Cup Race. The race entries, classifications, car dealer and parts store ads contained in this program provide a nostalgic look at racing involvement in the early days of Portland. However, the spectator safety tips were the most telling of how far motorsports have evolved!
