PIR HISTORY PAGE 3

Proposed future improvements to PIR

In the above drawing (courtesy of Portland Parks and Recreation), some of the proposed improvements can be seen. Probably the most significant is the Oregon Motorsports Museum located at the main entrance. The museum will also include a Vanport interpretive center, and a community meeting room. The PIR offices will be relocated from their current location in the Good Year tower into museum. This will allow the tower to be remodeled to better accommodate the different groups that use the track. Other proposed buildings include permanent facilities in the southeast corner for the racing school, the concessionaire, a pro shop and racing oriented businesses. Garages will be added to the infield pro pit area. With the possibility of viewing areas atop the garages. A maintenance barn is planned to house all the equipment and materials used throughout the year. As well an office for the maintenance supervisor. Both of the current permanent restrooms would be remodeled and enlarged with the addition of shower facilities. A new permanent restroom may be added on the west end. Also on the west end, a vehicle and a pedestrian bridge are planned. The east bank area will be revamped as spectator terraces.

As for the track itself, turn 9 (12), will be reconfigured. In some places the track will be widened and the entire track will be repaved.
