The Vanport Circuit/West Delta Park 1961

This was the original track layout in 1961. In this Junior Chamber of Commerce Park Development Committee drawing dated Feb. 1962, note the proposals for a bridge and the dragstrip! The six and seven turn area would also be reconfigured in the coming years. Although I don't know if that bridge was ever built, the dragstrip and "future permanent pits" area of course did come to be.
The names of the Vanport streets used for the original track layout are; turn one to two: Cottonwood St., turn two to three: Lake Ave., turn three through six: Victory Blvd. (with turn four using part of Force Ave.). I'm still working on the name between turn six and seven (although I can tell you, this area is referred to as the "circus" by the road racers). Of the original Vanport design, the current configuration still utilizes Victory Blvd. as the backstretch and Cottonwood St. remains as the front straight/drag strip.
