HAIRY LIVES!
With that last pass in Buffalo, George Hurst, concerned with the safety of others (remember, this man invented the Jaws of Life), had Hairy dismantled. Although sad but true, much of him ended up in the Hurst Performance Research Center's scrap metal bin. Doc Watson's monster it seemed, had been killed.
Resurrected from the dead after a 33 year rest Hairy has returned to life!
In a secret laboratory, and under the watchful eyes of Joe Schubeck (driver) and Bob Lathrum (mechanic), the 1966 version of the Hurst Hairy Olds is being recreated. By staying faithful to the original design, and using as many original components as possible, Hairy is being brought back to life.

Some of the original components that have been located include the specially made aluminum bumpers and hood as shown above.

Hairy made his re-debut at the Oldsmobile Quad States Show in Iowa September 23, 2000 where the above and below pictures were taken.
With Hairys first display being sans body, it shows the accuracy and detail of the original that has been so carefully recreated.

Again at the 2000 Quad States Show, we have Hairy with Bob Lathrum on the left, Joe Schubeck in the drivers seat and Dennis, the president of the Oldsmobile Club of Iowa on the right.
Major funding for this project has come from Victory Performance Parts. With additional help coming from many of the original suppliers. As well as numerous Oldsmobile Club members.
Look for Hairy (with body) at the 2001 Hurst/Olds Club Nationals and the 2001 Oldsmobile Club of America Nationals.
The final destination for Hairy will be the NHRA museum in Los Angeles in November of 2002.
Stay tuned for more pictures and updates.
